goodie oldie - remembering then, now and in the future

the earls - remember then

"Larry Chance and the Earls were a moderately popular recording group from the 1960s formed in The Bronx, New York. In 1962, their single "Remember Then" was a hit, and "Life Is But a Dream," "Never" and "I Believe" also charted.

The Earls are one of the great New York City doo-wop success stories. Formed out of the Bronx, and discovered singing on the street corner in front of subway station, the Earls took the original black doo-wop street corner harmony sound, and refined and expanded it for new audiences.

As the oldies revival scene started a strong run in the early 1970s and 1980s, the Earls became one of the most requested groups in the Doo Wop genre. They are still actively performing and remain very popular in the oldies circuit."

Robert Peter Williams was born on 13 February 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent. He is a Grammy Award-nominated and multi BRIT Award-winning British singer-songwriter. His career started as a dancer and singer of the pop band Take That in 1990, which he left in 1995 to launch his solo career.

Robbie Williams as a solo artist has sold more albums in the United Kingdom than any other British solo artist in history and has won more BRIT Awards than any other artist to date.[1] His album sales stands at over 55 million worldwide.[2]

Williams entered in the The Guinness Book of World Records when he announced his World Tour for 2006, selling 1.6 million tickets in one single day. He has been the recipient of many awards, including ten BRIT and six ECHO awards. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, after being voted as the Greatest artist of the 1990s. He appears in the list of the all-time Top 100 biggest selling albums in the United Kingdom six times. It is also estimated he is currently the best selling non-Latino artist in Latin America at the moment with over 3 million sold. Despite Williams' immense popularity worldwide, he has still yet to become a major chart or concert success in the United States. He is planning to begin the recording sessions in March and that the new album will be released in late-2009.

Williams, who has amassed a fortune estimated at more than £90 million since he left Take That, announced in December 2008 he is planning to relocate to the UK prior to releasing his eighth studio album in mid-2009 and a possible reunion with Take That. Photos also showed Williams with his new tattoo of the Take That logo on his right arm, in tribute to his former bandmates.

"Green Day is an American rock trio formed in 1987. The band has consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, vocals), and Tré Cool (drums, percussion) for the majority of its existence.

Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie (1994) became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. and 15 million worldwide.

As a result, Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States.

Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status respectively. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S.

The band's eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, will be released on May 15, 2009"
