"Boa Kwon commonly known by her stage name BoA, which stands for Beat of Angel is a kpop singer active in both South Korea and Japan. She was born on November 5 1986. Boa is managed by SM Entertainment (which also manages DBSK, TRAX, Super Junior, etc).

BoA's multilingual skills (she speaks Japanese and conversational English along with her native Korean and has recorded songs in Mandarin Chinese) have contributed to her commercial success in South Korea and Japan and her popularity throughout Asia. She is one of only two non-Japanese Asians who have had million-selling albums in Japan and is one of only two artists to have first six consecutive number-one studio albums on the Oricon charts.

At the age of thirteen she released her debut album ID Peace B in South Korea on August 25 2000. On October 14 2008, under SM Entertainment USA, a subdivision of SM Entertainment, BoA debuted in the United States with the single 'Eat You Up' and released her debut English-language album 'BoA' on March 17 2009"

"Tje Austin Alldredge was born in 1983 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Adopted from birth by a Mormon couple, he was the fourth child to a family that soon grew to be a family of eleven. His interest in music stemmed from his parents' love of country music and oldies rock, and gradually evolved to rhythm and blues.

"Tje Austin moved to Austin, Texas in the summer of 2001 to attend the University of Texas-Austin though he didn't consider pursing music until 2004. He had always written songs in his high school years, but he felt if he purchased a guitar, he would further develop his "afro-hawaiian" sound.

In 2007 he began to perform downtown in Austin, at such venues as Ventana del Sol, Seattle's Best and other coffee shops. Most recently he has been seen at the Light Bar, the Driskill Hotel Lounge, as well as lending his mellow sound to the Urban Music Fest this early April 2008.

With influences from Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Amos Lee, India Arie, Brian McKnight and Craig David he continues to finish his highly anticipated first cd, titled Love Me Knots, that features a variety of local talent, with thoughts from Neo Soul poet Mizz Lizz, as well as vocals from the soulful songstress Tenaya"

"K'naan (pronounced /ˈkeɪnɑːn/;[1]), born Kanaan Warsame (Somali: Kaynaan Warsame, Arabic: كنعان وارسام‎) in 1978,[2] is a Somali-Canadian poet, rapper and musician. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, K'naan spent his childhood in the district of Wardhiigleey ("The Lake of Blood") during the Somali Civil War, which began in 1991. His aunt, Magool, was one of Somalia's most famous singers. K'naan's grandfather, Haji Mohamed, was a poet. K'naan is also a Muslim. His name, K'naan, means "traveller" in the Somali language.

In 1991 he boarded the last commercial flight out of Somalia and joined relatives in Harlem, New York City, before moving to the Toronto, Ontario neighbourhood of Rexdale, where there was a large Somali Canadian community, where his family still lives. In Canada K'naan began learning English, some through hip hop albums by artists like Nas and Rakim. Despite speaking no English, the young K'naan taught himself hip hop and rap diction, copying the lyrics and style phonetically. He then also began rapping. He dropped out of school in grade ten to travel for a time, rapping at open mic events, and eventually returned to Toronto.

K'naan became a friend and associate of Canadian promoter, Sol Guy, who helped him secure a gig speaking before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1999, where K'naan performed a spoken word piece criticizing the UN for its failed aid missions to Somalia. One of the audience members, Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, was so impressed by the young MC's performance and courage that he invited him to contribute to his 2001 album Building Bridges, a project through which K'naan was able to tour the world.

This project lead to his work at other UN events, as well as the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Halifax Pop Explosion. It also helped him meet Canadian producer Jarvis Church and his Track & Field team in 2002, who produced his debut album The Dusty Foot Philosopher, which was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. In 2006, it won the Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year, and was nominated for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize. It also won the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music in the newcomer category for 2007.

His second studio album, Troubadour, was released on February 24, 2009 on A&M/Octone Records, and will be distributed through Universal Music Group worldwide. The album's first single, "ABC's", was released to radio in late 2008"

"Before Big Bang's major debut, each member had his own degree of success and popularity in the entertainment industry. Leader G-Dragon and lead vocalist Tae Yang had already been with YG Entertainment since they were both twelve years old, known as GDYB back then (Tae Yang's real name is Young Bae).[4] Member T.O.P was well known as an underground hip-hop rapper while Seung Ri was first introduced to the entertainment industry through the show Let's Cokeplay Battle Shinhwa

Big Bang's own official fan club is called "V.I.P." (in reflection of their second single "Big Bang is V.I.P."). Unlike other fan clubs, Big Bang's fans do not have a balloon color for showing support at concerts; instead, fans wave black and white BB (obviously standing for Big Bang) handkerchiefs/bandannas.

Big Bang's fashion trends are well known throughout the internet fashion portals,[25] thus making them one of the most sought after artists for endorsement products"

i believe jay chou kicks a** as an talented musician and i loved him in the role he played in one of my fave movies 'Initial D'

"Jay Chou (traditional Chinese: 周杰倫; simplified Chinese: 周杰伦; pinyin: Zhōu Jiélún; Wade-Giles: Chou Chieh-lun; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chiu Kia̍t-lûn) was born January 18, 1979. He is a Taiwanese musician, singer, producer, actor and director who has won the World Music Award four times.

His mother noticed his sensitivity to music and took him to piano lessons at the age of three. During his childhood, he was fascinated with capturing sounds and songs with his tape recorder, something he carried everywhere with him. In the third grade, he became interested in music theory and also started cello lessons.

As an only child, he enjoyed being the family's center of attention; he loved to play piano, imitate TV actors, and perform magic tricks. His parents divorced when he was 14; as a result, he became reclusive and introverted. Although he had friends, he often preferred to be alone listening to music, contemplating and daydreaming

He is well-known for composing all his own songs and songs for other singers. Although he was trained in classical music, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanization.

Chou's compositions are loosely categorized as pop music. While many of his works fall into contemporary R&B, rap, and rock genres, the term 'Chou Style' (traditional Chinese: 周氏風格; pinyin: zhōu shì fēnggé)has been popularized to describe his trademark cross-cultural music and his insistence on singing with relaxed enunciation. Taipei Times once described the meaning of 'Chou Style': 'In what has become the archetypal Chou style, Taiwan's favorite song blends pop, rap, blues and a smorgasbord of esthetic elements of world music to create his dream-like never-never land ...' He regularly fuses traditional Chinese instruments and styles with R&B or rock to form a new genre called 'Zhongguo feng' (traditional Chinese: 中國風; pinyin: Zhōngguó fēng). He has sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

He debuted his acting career in Initial D (2005), for which he won Best Newcomer Actor in Golden Horse Awards, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor by Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in Curse of the Golden Flower (2006).

His career now extends into directing and running his own record company JVR Music. He has also endorsed various models of Media Players released by Onda in which he appears on the box, and his signature and likeness is printed on the back of certain models of these players"

"Alexander Lee-Hom Wang was born in Rochester, New York. Wang chose to attend Williams College, where he graduated with honors, double majoring in music and Asian Studies. He continued his studies by attending Berklee College of Music's Professional Music program, with voice as his principal instrument. He is active in all areas of music production, from composing to producing, to music arrangement, to lyric writing, to directing his own music videos.

Although he did not begin learning Mandarin until he was 18, Wang is now fluent in the language (including reading and writing) and has written most of the lyrics for his songs.[5] Wang plays over 10 musical instruments. In his albums and live concerts, Wang can be heard playing piano, drums, guitar, bass, violin, vibraphone, erhu, xun, and more.

A classically trained music background enables Wang to pull from a variety of musical styles and continuously reinvent his own sound that is distinctly Chinese and western at the same time, eg his 2005 release, Shangri-La drew heavily from R&B, dance pop, and the musics of Chinese ethnic minorities from Tibet, Mongolia, and Yunnan.

In addition to his music, Wang also participated in several films, his role in Ang Lee's Lust, Caution gaining the most attention.

He is also an environmental activist, and was invited to be one of the first torchbearers for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, carrying the torch in Olympia, Greece on March 24, 2008. He was also invited to perform in the closing ceremonies. His album Change Me was dedicated to raising eco-awareness among Chinese youth.

Wang was listed among 'The 100 Most Inspiring Asian Americans of All Time' by Goldsea Asian American Daily"

"Tony Leung Chiu-Wai (Chinese: 梁朝偉; pinyin: Liáng Cháowěi; Cantonese Yale: Lèung Chìuh Wáih) was born 27 June 1962. He is a Cannes Film Festival and five-time Hong Kong Film Award-winning Chinese film and television actor. He has been a major film star since the 1990s.

To distinguish himself from fellow actor Tony Leung Ka-Fai, he is known colloquially in Hong Kong as "Little Tony", while Ka-Fai is known as "Big Tony", nicknames which correspond to the actors' respective physical statures

In 1982 he passed the training courses of television channel TVB. Due to his boyish looks, TVB cast him as host of a children's programme, 430 Space Shuttle. Leung enjoyed comedies during his television years; it was for these he became well known.

Many consider Tony Leung's role in director John Woo's 1992 action film Hard Boiled in which he co-starred with Chow Yun-Fat, as his breakthrough role in film. However, Leung first gained international exposure through Hou Hsiao-Hsien's 1989 film A City of Sadness, which won the Venice Golden Lion.

Leung often collaborates with director Wong Kar-wai and has appeared in many of his films. His most notable roles in Wong Kar-wai's films include the lonely policeman in Chungking Express (1994), a gay Chinese expatriate living in Argentina in Happy Together (1997), and a self-controlled victim of adultery in In the Mood for Love (2000), for which he won the Best Actor award at Cannes.

He is considered by many to be the finest actor of his generation in Hong Kong. Robert De Niro is an admirer of his work. Leung has been called Asia's answer to Clark Gable.

Leung also has an on-and-off Cantopop and Mandarin pop singing career and sang the theme song of Infernal Affairs with Andy Lau.

Leung speaks decent English and is well read and well versed on historical issues. During the late 1990s, some predicted that it would be difficult for him to break into Hollywood since he would not take on degrading roles because of his pride and character.

Leung has dated Carina Lau since the end of 1989. On 21 July 2008, the couple got married in Bhutan in a royal fashion. The wedding created a media frenzy in Hong Kong, with companies spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to pursue the wedding party.

riding the bollywave

riding the bollywave success of the movie slumdog millionaire (best picture, directing, cinematography, film editing, writing in adapted screenplay, sound mixing, music score and music song) at the 81st Annual Academy Awards aka the 2009 Oscars on 2009/2/22, i thought it would be fun to share a couple of my fave bollywood songs (they are not MVs but are instead videos made taking clips from the movies)

monsoon wedding - nominations and wins for several international awards eg british academy of film and television, independent spirit awards, venice international film festival, and starring the cutie sweetie parvin darbas

Monsoon Wedding - Kawa Kawa Kawa

chalte chalte - starring one of my fave actors kk aka king khan aka srk aka shahrukh khan aka शाहरुख़ ख़ान (Hindi) aka شاہ رخ خان (Urdu)

t-o-h-o spelling

it is said by some that the most recognizable idols are those that are known by their one name eg madonna, sting, prince, etc, etc, etc

but you know that you are the shit when you are known in different countries by different names and no matter where your fans are in the world they recognize your name even when it is spoken and written in other languages

without a doubt my absofreakinglutely fave bb/ig (boy band/idol group) is **drumroll please ** tah dah .... DBSK (Dong Bang Shin Ki) aka DBSG (Dong Bang Shin Gi) aka THSK (Tōhōshinki) TOHO (Tōhōshinki) aka TVXQ (Tong Vfang Xien Qi) aka TVfXQ (Tong Vfang Xien Qi) aka RGoTE (Rising Gods of the East - ok, so i just invented this one)

what can i say about this fab bb/ig that has not already been said countless of times - my two fave things about them are their personalities and their talents

they compose some of their own songs, sing like the veins in their necks are about to pop out and can hold a tune and harmonize to some sweet muzik that makes you feel like you are downing that oh so starbuckacious sweet caramel macchiato that has finally been made correctly and is smoothly gliding down your throat in an orgasmic caffeinated sucrose infused high ... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh - delish .........

they are a s. korean quintet boy band who debuted in 2004 under the infamously famous SM entertainment - they are fluent in Korean and Japanese, have released their albums in both languages and spend their timely roughly equally divided between both countries - their two main fanclubs are called cassopiea (korean) and big east (japanese) - the Cassopian fanclub is in the guiness book of world records as the largest fanclub in the world

the five members are:
jung yunho - stage name u-know yunho (group leader)
kim junsu - stage name xiah junsu aka asia junsu
shim changmin - stage name choikang changmin aka max changmin
park yoochun - stage name micky yoochun aka yuchun
kim jaejoong - stage name youngwoong jaejoong aka hero jaejoong aka jejung

korean albums:
2004 tri-angle
2005 rising sun
2006 o jung ban hap
2008 mirotic

japanese albums:
2006 heart, mind and soul
2007 five in the black
2008 T
2009 the secret code

some of my fave songs that they have sang live are the japanese versions of "proud," "love in the ice" and "darkness eyes" (no lipsyncing in the versions seen below although there are rumours that they do lipsync their fast dance track songs, because of the difficulties involved in doing energetic and difficult dances while singing perfectly)

the live song "proud" was sang at the end of the their successful Five In The Black concert and some of the members started to cry as they thought of all of the years of hardship that they had endured to get to that point - this live version always makes me cry ...

over the RAINbow

jeez louise and all her sisters, could he RAINism some of that in my direction please? welcome to my kingdom where there is always a rainbow on the horizon coz the sun is always shining even when it's RAINing (btw - you'll do know that rain is associated with fertility ... a-hem ...) - oops, i digress, but seriously i would welcome some fertilization from this damn specimen of manhood ... sigh ... ok, ok, a thousand apologies but my mind keeps wondering to thoughts of this wonderous hunka hunka man

but in all seriousness lemme get back to the point - this man is one of the hardest working entertainers in showbiz - i mentioned in one of my earlier posts that you are considered a big kahuna in the entertainment industry if the world knows you by just one name eg madonna, sting, prince, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, blah, blah, blah, and so on and so forth

but this k-pop idol (dancer, singer, actor, company executive) is known by many names in different parts of the world and yet his name is automatically recognized even if you call him by his english name in non-english speaking countries - now that's some hunka kahunas

"As the word for "rain" is different in many languages, he is known by a variety of names. In the West, he is known by the English word Rain [or The Rain]. In Korea he is known as 비, romanized as Bi and pronounced as the letter B in English [or by his actual name Jeong Ji-hoon]. In Japan, he is known as ピ, pronounced pi. In China, he is sometimes referred to as Yu or 雨
http://www.koreanmovie.com/Rain_ka1310/

mmmmmmmmmmm, delish - oh boy - gimmie a second i need to reflect on this vid below of him during his workout preps for his new movie Ninja Assassin that will be released in 2009 (can we buy advance tix?) - scrumptous - omgollywollydolly - wicked mate!
credit blulovely

in 2006 he was mentioned in Time Magazine's website article that named the 100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World - in 2007 he topped Time Magazine's online user poll, although he was not in the magazine's actual list - in 2007 he made it into People's list of the Most Beautiful People in the world

he sure does like the variations of his name - his album released in oct 2008 was called "rainism" and his past albums were called "rain's world," "eternal rain" and "it's raining" ....... wot the heck?

stephen colbert even did a funny parody of rain's 'avoiding/escaping the sun' song, which is one of my fave songs

Rain - Avoiding The Sun

but my fave parody is the one done by one of my fave s. korean comedians, kim shin young, who parodied rain's "rainism" song by doing her's about food

afterschool's girlplayaz

sigh, my newest obsession song that i cannot get outta me head mates! whatcanisay? i can't get the song outta my head - it keeps running 'round and 'round - i keep singin' to myself even tho' i have no idea what the heck i'm sayin' - the song by the new kpop gps (girl pop singers) called afterschool

the rumours are that they are supposed to be the kpop version of the american gps called pussycat dolls

"Pledis Entertainment has unleashed a 5-member girl group After School on the music scene. The group comprises of Park Ga Hee (leader), Kim Jung Ah, Yoo So Young, Bekha and Lee Joo Yeon. Pledis Entertainment expressed, 'After School is a group that has been training for 2 years and is modeled after the Pussycat Dolls. They will be a group that Korea has never seen before.'"
http://www.bytcs.com/international/pledis-entertainment-unleashes-5-member-girl-group-after-sch.html

they are also supposedly receiving some hateration from some the members of the largest fanclub in the world, aka the cassopeians, coz the leader of afterschool is supposedly the ex-girlfriend of dbsk's chunnie - come on folks - wottheheck! gimmie a break - there is such a thing as being a fan and then there is being an insane fan - as a fan of dbsk i'm glad to hear the whispers that they actually try to make some time to have a life and that they actually date (i like to know that the person writing the love song actually knows the joy and heartbreak of what love is)! - go chunnie, go chunnie, go chunnie - i wonder if that story you were telling on the telly show, "Come To Play" was about her - hmmmmmmmmm, ugh, i wish it had been me receiving that smooch ;-)

folks - i say who gives a freakin' f&%* who dates and whom - for freak's sake let's just enjoy the dance muzik from their mini-album tiny album

boy band to successful solo - ricky martin

ricky martin made a successful crossover from the original menudo (yep me mateys - there was an original menudo) - they were "a Puerto Rican boy band that was formed in the 1970s by producer Edgardo Diaz, releasing their first album in 1977. The band achieved much success, especially during the 1980s, becoming the most popular Puerto Rican teen musical group of the era" credit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menudo_(band)

check him out as a teen idol tiny tot in the original menudo (he is the one in the pink shirt)

ok, ok, ok, so i'm guilty of always sayin' that '80s fashion rocked and this time you guys are right to ask if i'm krazy, coz wot the heck is me mate in the yellow cut off shirt wearing in the vid - oh lordy save us from ourselves - i cannot explain that aspect of '80s fashion - i plead the 5th!
