the telly series 'Boys Before Flowers' was a huge k-drama hit

what can i say about metrosexual bidanshi flower boyz 'cept that i absofreakingly luv them - scrumpilicious - yummy yummy yummilicious!

"Boys Over Flowers (花より男子 Hana yori Dango) is a Japanese shōjo manga series by Yoko Kamio. It was serialized in the bi-weekly anthology magazine. Magaret, which is aimed at high-school-age girls. The manga series ran continuously from October 1992 to September 2003, and was collected into 37 tankobon volumes. In 1996, it received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo. Recently, the series has started to be released in a deluxe edition (larger pages and with all the color artwork from the magazine reproduced).

The manga has been remade into 3 drama productions in Japan, Taiwan and S. Korea (with a 4th rumored for China), along with one spin-off, 2 live action movies, 1 anime movie and also an anime series. Hana Yori Dango is the best-selling shōjo manga in Japan of all time"

i have not yet watched it yet coz it's not my cuppa tea, but i'm thinking that it would not be a bad idea to get a hunka hunka dosage of one of my F4ers

... no, not the ones in the show
f4-bof

... i mean "THE REAL F4ers" best friends forever (bff) - on a surprising side note, considering the intense competitiveness in the korean muzik industry and the fact that hyungjoong (boyband called 'ss501' under daesung entertainment) and top (boyband called 'big bang' under yg entertainment) belong to two different companies that are extreme competitors of jaejoong and yoochun's group (boyband called 'dbsk' under sm entertainment) then it's a wonder that these guys are friends (or that they were even allowed to become friends based on some of the rumours that are coming out of that industry) - kudos to them ... (the nn's {nicknames} are my own made up nn's for them)

"THE REAL F4ers"

ss501's hyungjoong's adventure into acting has been getting great - oops cross that - mixed reviews - but i am a fan of his boy band SS501 so he gets my support - don't listen to the haters hyungjoong - just keep on keeping on

anyhooey ......, to get to my original point ......., while i was thinking about the show i started to think of the flower boys that i like and decided to list them each month - kinda like the concept that that great reading magazine has when it highlights a special person each month and gives them their own person of the month playmate of the month - mmmmmmmmmmmm, delectably tasty morsels of flowerness each month - sigh .........

i've gotta start with my all time fave, the one and only, the most scrumptious one of all, taa dahhhhhhhh ** drum freakin' roll please ** mr joongie aka kim jaejoong of dbsk - lordy - hold me back coz i'm about to have a heart attack - talk about VICK - no, not his pet doggie ...... 'tho he is kinda a cutie too 'coz he reminds of the doggie from the 1N2D's telly show - but i digress as per my usual, what i meant to say is that i always have to recover from visual shock whenever i take a juicy look at jaejoong - oy vey - i've been zipped, zapped and zappedoed 'til my brain is fried like the "this is your brain on drugs" adverts - oh hunka, hunka, mess - wow

hold on folks - i need a minute sheesh ........... still on my minute ............. hold on, hold on, hold matey i'm still recovering ............................... oki docki, i'm back and somewhat recovered - what a darn fine specimen for the inaugural flower of the month - joongie - call me - i need me some ;-)

phenomenal movies and shows - rabbit proof fence

"Rabbit-Proof Fence is a 2002 Australian drama film based on the book Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence by Doris Pilkington Garimara. It is a true story concerning the author's mother, as well as two other young mixed-race Aboriginal girls, who ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement, north of Perth, in order to return to their Aboriginal families, after having been placed there in 1931. The film follows the girls as they trek/walk for nine weeks along 1,500 miles (2,400 km) of the Australian rabbit-proof fence to return to their community at Jigalong, while being tracked by a white authority figure and an Aboriginal tracker. The soundtrack, Music from the Rabbit-Proof Fence, is by Peter Gabriel"

"The State Barrier Fence of Western Australia, formerly known as the No. 1 Rabbit-proof Fence, the State Vermin Fence and the Emu Fence, is a pest-exclusion fence constructed between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other agricultural pests out of Western Australian pastoral areas. There are three fences; the original No. 1 Fence, which crosses the state from north to south, the No. 2 Fence which is smaller and further west, and the smaller east-west running No. 3 fence. The fences took six years to build. When completed in 1907, the Rabbit-Proof Fence (including all three fences) stretched 2021 miles (3 253 km)"

hyo ri is my fave female korean entertainer - she is not only a hardworking performer, but she strikes me as just an all around nice person - she is also a regular on my current fave telly fun show 'Family Outing' - go hyo ri go!

"Lee Hyori (Korean: 이효리, also romanized as Lee Hyolee and officially E Hyo-lee) was born on May 10 1979. She is a South Korean singer and actress. She started off as part of the successful K-pop girl group Fin.K.L, but has since become a solo artist. Her first album was very successful, winning many "Daesangs" (a Korean award equivalent to "Artist of the Year") for that album. She has since become the highest-paid female singer in South Korea."

"Jasmine Guy was born on March 10 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts. She is an American actress, singer and dancer. She is most well known for her starring role as Southern belle Whitley Gilbert in the television series A Different World.

During the run of A Different World, she released her self-titled debut album in 1990, which spawned three Billboard Top 100 hits Try Me, Another Like My Lover and Just Want To Hold You. The album went on to sell 168,000 copies. In the spring of 2006, Jasmine spoke to the graduating class at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and revealed that she will record a second album. She commented that of all the entertainment industries, the music industry was the worst. She will sell her new album online herself and not through a major label, similar to the marketing strategy used by Prince."

sadly flying away

by mid-2009 fly to the sky will be 'inactive' ie not disbanding, just indefinitely inactive - bri will be focusing on acting and hollywood movies and fany will be focusing on being a solo artist and releasing his solo albums - sad to see them go (well, ok, they are supposedly not disbanding ...)

"Fly to the Sky (Korean: 플라이 투 더 스카이) is a South Korean R&B duo, consisting of Korean American Brian Joo and South Korean native Fany Hwang.

Initially marketed as a duo that could sing, rap and dance, their early works featured bubblegum pop and upbeat techno music. The duo later changed their image and style with the release of Sea of Love in 2002. With their subsequent albums, the duo solidified their status as R&B artists and are credited as the first R&B duo of South Korea.

The duo was formed in late 1998 by SM Entertainment. Brian Joo auditioned while he was attending Holy Spirit High School in New Jersey. Hwang Yoon-Suk, later to be known as Fany, was encouraged to audition by a staff member working for the label at his high school festival. Fly to the Sky officially debuted on November 21, 1999 at the LOG-IN H.O.T. Concert and SM Festival Concert '99.

Their 2003 studio album Missing You featured more tracks that departed from bubblegum music and emphasized their vocal skills for an image as serious artists. Performing commercially well, the album gave the duo many awards including Bonsang award from SBS Gayo Daejun and Korea Music Awards. This period is remembered for the highly publicized death of their manager, who was also the manager of BoA, another Korean singer. On a show, both members recalled this incident as an emotionally hard time for them. Fany was especially shocked, because he was on the same vehicle with his manager just hours before the incident.

After Fly to the Sky's contract with SM Entertainment expired in November 2004, the duo signed on with PFull Entertainment. The duo stated that they wanted a smaller label that was willing to promote them as musicians and focus less on commercial success. Under this label, Fly to the Sky released their sixth studio album Transition after a year-long hiatus in January 2006. The album became massively successful, selling over 160,000 copies.

The duo's seventh album No Limitations was release on July 4, 2007. Their first television performance to promote the album was on June 29, 2007. Popular tracks that are included in the album are "Oneuldo Eebbeungul," ("오늘도 이쁜걸" Pretty Today Too) "Geuraedo Sarangipnida," ("그래도 사랑입니다" It's still love) and "Gee-uk Han Joom" ("기억 한 줌" Grain of Memory),[20] as well as "My Angel", which peaked at #1 on many on- and offline charts. No Limitations became the duo's first number one album. The band made a comeback releasing an 8th album titled Decennium in 2009. "Goo Sok" (구속 Restriction) is one of the album's popular songs.

Decennium will be Fly to the Sky's final album, the duo said that they will not renew their contracts and go their separate ways and the group will be inactive. On April 15, 2009, Brian and Hwan Hee announced that Fly to the Sky won't disband. Brian will be in a movie in Hollywood and Hwanhee will release a solo album. They will no longer be singing as the popular group Fly to the Sky. Instead, they want to focus on solo activities. But they will still be under the name Fly to the Sky"

"Larry Chance and the Earls were a moderately popular recording group from the 1960s formed in The Bronx, New York. In 1962, their single "Remember Then" was a hit, and "Life Is But a Dream," "Never" and "I Believe" also charted.

The Earls are one of the great New York City doo-wop success stories. Formed out of the Bronx, and discovered singing on the street corner in front of subway station, the Earls took the original black doo-wop street corner harmony sound, and refined and expanded it for new audiences.

As the oldies revival scene started a strong run in the early 1970s and 1980s, the Earls became one of the most requested groups in the Doo Wop genre. They are still actively performing and remain very popular in the oldies circuit."

Robert Peter Williams was born on 13 February 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent. He is a Grammy Award-nominated and multi BRIT Award-winning British singer-songwriter. His career started as a dancer and singer of the pop band Take That in 1990, which he left in 1995 to launch his solo career.

Robbie Williams as a solo artist has sold more albums in the United Kingdom than any other British solo artist in history and has won more BRIT Awards than any other artist to date.[1] His album sales stands at over 55 million worldwide.[2]

Williams entered in the The Guinness Book of World Records when he announced his World Tour for 2006, selling 1.6 million tickets in one single day. He has been the recipient of many awards, including ten BRIT and six ECHO awards. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, after being voted as the Greatest artist of the 1990s. He appears in the list of the all-time Top 100 biggest selling albums in the United Kingdom six times. It is also estimated he is currently the best selling non-Latino artist in Latin America at the moment with over 3 million sold. Despite Williams' immense popularity worldwide, he has still yet to become a major chart or concert success in the United States. He is planning to begin the recording sessions in March and that the new album will be released in late-2009.

Williams, who has amassed a fortune estimated at more than £90 million since he left Take That, announced in December 2008 he is planning to relocate to the UK prior to releasing his eighth studio album in mid-2009 and a possible reunion with Take That. Photos also showed Williams with his new tattoo of the Take That logo on his right arm, in tribute to his former bandmates.

"Green Day is an American rock trio formed in 1987. The band has consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, vocals), and Tré Cool (drums, percussion) for the majority of its existence.

Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie (1994) became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. and 15 million worldwide.

As a result, Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States.

Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status respectively. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S.

The band's eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, will be released on May 15, 2009"

"Boa Kwon commonly known by her stage name BoA, which stands for Beat of Angel is a kpop singer active in both South Korea and Japan. She was born on November 5 1986. Boa is managed by SM Entertainment (which also manages DBSK, TRAX, Super Junior, etc).

BoA's multilingual skills (she speaks Japanese and conversational English along with her native Korean and has recorded songs in Mandarin Chinese) have contributed to her commercial success in South Korea and Japan and her popularity throughout Asia. She is one of only two non-Japanese Asians who have had million-selling albums in Japan and is one of only two artists to have first six consecutive number-one studio albums on the Oricon charts.

At the age of thirteen she released her debut album ID Peace B in South Korea on August 25 2000. On October 14 2008, under SM Entertainment USA, a subdivision of SM Entertainment, BoA debuted in the United States with the single 'Eat You Up' and released her debut English-language album 'BoA' on March 17 2009"

"Tje Austin Alldredge was born in 1983 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Adopted from birth by a Mormon couple, he was the fourth child to a family that soon grew to be a family of eleven. His interest in music stemmed from his parents' love of country music and oldies rock, and gradually evolved to rhythm and blues.

"Tje Austin moved to Austin, Texas in the summer of 2001 to attend the University of Texas-Austin though he didn't consider pursing music until 2004. He had always written songs in his high school years, but he felt if he purchased a guitar, he would further develop his "afro-hawaiian" sound.

In 2007 he began to perform downtown in Austin, at such venues as Ventana del Sol, Seattle's Best and other coffee shops. Most recently he has been seen at the Light Bar, the Driskill Hotel Lounge, as well as lending his mellow sound to the Urban Music Fest this early April 2008.

With influences from Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Amos Lee, India Arie, Brian McKnight and Craig David he continues to finish his highly anticipated first cd, titled Love Me Knots, that features a variety of local talent, with thoughts from Neo Soul poet Mizz Lizz, as well as vocals from the soulful songstress Tenaya"

"K'naan (pronounced /ˈkeɪnɑːn/;[1]), born Kanaan Warsame (Somali: Kaynaan Warsame, Arabic: كنعان وارسام‎) in 1978,[2] is a Somali-Canadian poet, rapper and musician. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, K'naan spent his childhood in the district of Wardhiigleey ("The Lake of Blood") during the Somali Civil War, which began in 1991. His aunt, Magool, was one of Somalia's most famous singers. K'naan's grandfather, Haji Mohamed, was a poet. K'naan is also a Muslim. His name, K'naan, means "traveller" in the Somali language.

In 1991 he boarded the last commercial flight out of Somalia and joined relatives in Harlem, New York City, before moving to the Toronto, Ontario neighbourhood of Rexdale, where there was a large Somali Canadian community, where his family still lives. In Canada K'naan began learning English, some through hip hop albums by artists like Nas and Rakim. Despite speaking no English, the young K'naan taught himself hip hop and rap diction, copying the lyrics and style phonetically. He then also began rapping. He dropped out of school in grade ten to travel for a time, rapping at open mic events, and eventually returned to Toronto.

K'naan became a friend and associate of Canadian promoter, Sol Guy, who helped him secure a gig speaking before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1999, where K'naan performed a spoken word piece criticizing the UN for its failed aid missions to Somalia. One of the audience members, Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, was so impressed by the young MC's performance and courage that he invited him to contribute to his 2001 album Building Bridges, a project through which K'naan was able to tour the world.

This project lead to his work at other UN events, as well as the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Halifax Pop Explosion. It also helped him meet Canadian producer Jarvis Church and his Track & Field team in 2002, who produced his debut album The Dusty Foot Philosopher, which was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. In 2006, it won the Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year, and was nominated for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize. It also won the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music in the newcomer category for 2007.

His second studio album, Troubadour, was released on February 24, 2009 on A&M/Octone Records, and will be distributed through Universal Music Group worldwide. The album's first single, "ABC's", was released to radio in late 2008"

"Before Big Bang's major debut, each member had his own degree of success and popularity in the entertainment industry. Leader G-Dragon and lead vocalist Tae Yang had already been with YG Entertainment since they were both twelve years old, known as GDYB back then (Tae Yang's real name is Young Bae).[4] Member T.O.P was well known as an underground hip-hop rapper while Seung Ri was first introduced to the entertainment industry through the show Let's Cokeplay Battle Shinhwa

Big Bang's own official fan club is called "V.I.P." (in reflection of their second single "Big Bang is V.I.P."). Unlike other fan clubs, Big Bang's fans do not have a balloon color for showing support at concerts; instead, fans wave black and white BB (obviously standing for Big Bang) handkerchiefs/bandannas.

Big Bang's fashion trends are well known throughout the internet fashion portals,[25] thus making them one of the most sought after artists for endorsement products"

ss501 is not splitting up - kim hyun joong is currently filming the hit telly k-drama series called 'Boys Over Flowers' (http://popiclicious.blogspot.com/2009/03/metrosexual-bidanshi-flower-boys.html) and park jung min is in a musical called 'Grease,' so both of them are extremely busy with solo activities - the other three members did not have solo activities to do, so a sub-unit was formed - all five members will have an official comeback around mid 2009 credit quainte501

i believe jay chou kicks a** as an talented musician and i loved him in the role he played in one of my fave movies 'Initial D'

"Jay Chou (traditional Chinese: 周杰倫; simplified Chinese: 周杰伦; pinyin: Zhōu Jiélún; Wade-Giles: Chou Chieh-lun; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chiu Kia̍t-lûn) was born January 18, 1979. He is a Taiwanese musician, singer, producer, actor and director who has won the World Music Award four times.

His mother noticed his sensitivity to music and took him to piano lessons at the age of three. During his childhood, he was fascinated with capturing sounds and songs with his tape recorder, something he carried everywhere with him. In the third grade, he became interested in music theory and also started cello lessons.

As an only child, he enjoyed being the family's center of attention; he loved to play piano, imitate TV actors, and perform magic tricks. His parents divorced when he was 14; as a result, he became reclusive and introverted. Although he had friends, he often preferred to be alone listening to music, contemplating and daydreaming

He is well-known for composing all his own songs and songs for other singers. Although he was trained in classical music, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanization.

Chou's compositions are loosely categorized as pop music. While many of his works fall into contemporary R&B, rap, and rock genres, the term 'Chou Style' (traditional Chinese: 周氏風格; pinyin: zhōu shì fēnggé)has been popularized to describe his trademark cross-cultural music and his insistence on singing with relaxed enunciation. Taipei Times once described the meaning of 'Chou Style': 'In what has become the archetypal Chou style, Taiwan's favorite song blends pop, rap, blues and a smorgasbord of esthetic elements of world music to create his dream-like never-never land ...' He regularly fuses traditional Chinese instruments and styles with R&B or rock to form a new genre called 'Zhongguo feng' (traditional Chinese: 中國風; pinyin: Zhōngguó fēng). He has sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

He debuted his acting career in Initial D (2005), for which he won Best Newcomer Actor in Golden Horse Awards, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor by Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in Curse of the Golden Flower (2006).

His career now extends into directing and running his own record company JVR Music. He has also endorsed various models of Media Players released by Onda in which he appears on the box, and his signature and likeness is printed on the back of certain models of these players"
